Who out there makes resolutions?  I have always--ALWAYS--made them....not so much kept them, but I do make a concerted effort to at least list what I want need to change.  It's your typical list of exercise more and eat less.  Read more watch less TV.  You know, all of those things you believe you should be doing that will magically make your life perfect and happy.  Volunteer more and party less.

I don't know about you, but as I have begun the approach toward 50 (yes, I know, in a few couple of years, I'll be 50 and I can't believe it either), I have found that I am choosing happiness over just about everything.  I'm choosing friends who make me happy and make me laugh.  People I can spend time with and not feel drained.  I'd rather spend an evening at home than out in a bar drinking with friends.  I'm choosing family over just about everything.  I'm selective on where my time goes and even more selective on where my money goes when it comes time to give back.

This year, I plan on being intentional with my "resolutions."  This means more accountability, but it also means that my list is more goal-oriented than "resolve."

I was telling my friend, Dana, about it the other day and she said, "Oh, you should check this out.  It's called Cultivate What Matters.  It's about being intentional with your goals.  I just ordered this journal and this book."  Background:  Dana and I used to work together and sit side-by-side.  We've shared journals, personal issues, jokes, Big Bang Calendar Quotes, food, Weight Watchers, etc.  You name it, Dana and I have talked about it.  During our few years together at Ralph's, we cultivated a true friendship.  We check-in almost weekly--if not daily--since she moved to Wilmington to be near her daughter and family.  It's a friendship that I am grateful for today.

So, I go check out this web page, sign up, and start reading.  I.  Can't.  Stop.  Reading.  It doesn't take long for me to realize that these women speak my language.  They live in gratitude (I have a gratitude group and practice the art of gratitude daily), they live intentionally, they offer guidance in setting goals and cultivating what you truly want out of life.  Oh, and the company is in Chapel Hill, NC.  Sign.  Me.  Up!  I immediately order the Cultivate book (above) and downloaded it on my Kindle.  I'm only page 9 because I've been working on the below Goal Setting prompts.

When you go to their site, you'll find this:

MAKING IT HAPPEN - THE PROCESS OF CULTIVATING WHAT MATTERS - IS WHERE LIFE FLOURISHES

It wasn't long after that, I was over on Lara Casey's blog--she's the founder of Cultivate What Matters.  You should check her out and read her story.  Lara started a blog series a few weeks ago about diving in and cultivating your goals for 2018.  I haven't completed it, but you can start now (or whenever, there's no good or bad time to start, just start).  Here are the links:

Goal Setting Part 1
Goal Setting Part 2
Goal Setting Part 3 --I finished this section yesterday.  My word for 2018 is LIGHT!

Goal Setting Part 4
Goal Setting Part 5 <--This was just posted yesterday, so you'll be caught up before you know it!

I ordered my Powersheets this morning.  They won't arrive before I leave for vacation.  The journals are sold out, but after working through the series above, I found that they aren't necessary to get you to your goals list, but having the powersheets will be extremely useful.

What are you looking to leave behind in 2017 and cultivate in 2018??  Share with me in the comments.  I would love to hear from you.
Laurie
