Weekend Check List

I love a good list.  Lists are great for organization.  I keep a list of things I want to paint, a list of goals that I update constantly.  I make a to-do list every single day at work.  It keeps me on task and there is nothing better than checking off an item on the list.  Some days, especially if I am really busy, I start my list the afternoon before.  That way I know what I'm in for tomorrow.  You can even journal by way of a list.

Watching
New fall shows.  I love the premier of the shows I've been missing all summer.  I am the queen of the sitcom.  I like to lose myself 30 minutes at a time.  My current favorite sitcoms are (* new this year):
  • Big Bang
  • Modern Family
  • Black-ish
  • American Housewife
  • The Goldbergs
  • Will & Grace*
  • Superstore
  • The Mindy Project
  • Me, Myself, & I*
  • The Middle

Reading
Hmm.  I don't make much time for reading anymore.  I have always been a voracious reader and yet, lately (as in the last few years) I haven't completed a single book.  There.  That's my confession.  It doesn't mean I don't have a ga-jillion of them on my kindle.  I do.  Mom and I share books on our Kindles.  The book that I am currently reading there (and wish it would read it to me) is Daring Greatly by Brene Brown.  The hard copy book on my bedside table that I am currently reading is Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling.  Mindy is one of the funniest women of our time.  If you haven't read her books or followed her career, I highly recommend her!

Listening
Tom Petty radio on Sirius XM.  I can't seem to get enough Petty now that he's gone.  I've seen him in concert more than anyone else and he never disappointed.  I think his death gave me a taste of my own mortality.  I keep quoting his music lyrics.  I hear songs I haven't heard in a long time.  He's conjured up memories -- like the time a bunch of us took a day off work to go snow skiing and all we played in the car was Tom Petty.  And we sang every song....we knew all the words.  Tom was universal in my group of friends.  We loved him and his music.

Eating
I'm working the Weight Watchers program and having great success.  Not every week is easy, but I believe there is more to the lifestyle choices than a diet.  I feel better and I'm down 12 pounds.  I can't really complain because I still allow myself cheeseburgers and pizza.....just not every week or every day.  It's about moderation and not about denying myself the guilty pleasures I love.  And eating fruit and vegetables.....lots of fruit and vegetables.

Contemplating
I'm constantly contemplating a new career.  I get bored easily and the more I lack a challenge at work or I feel I have been given busy-work, the more I look for change.  What I have learned so far: don't change for the sake of change, but look for new opportunities and new challenges.  The challenges are what keep me happy and growing.  If I'm not learning something new, I'm not happy.  I am very lucky to have a great mentor who I can confide in about my work.
